Goal to reduce response times
As of last month, new strategies were put into effect to unify the local police department while devising new sectors in order to improve monitoring and surveillance work, reported Erick Landagaray MacÃas, city Police Chief.
Chief Landagaray MacÃas reported they have already been able to see positive results with this new strategy, substantially reducing response times to calls while reinforcing police presence in neighborhoods.
He detailed through the reorganization of logistics and operatives, all municipal agents are now members of Police and Transit without the prior distinction of those serving in the police department and others under Municipal Transit.
In addition, he stated, they have established new sectors consisting of three specific zones: tourism sector, central, and outskirts. These were defined following a study of calls, where they were able to determine the best division of the city’s sectors.
Landagaray detailed the tourism sector extends from La Cholla to Las Conchas, encompassing Playa Hermosa, the docks, la Ballena hill and the Mirador. The central sector is where banks and businesses are located, while the outskirts include the neighborhoods of Nuevo Peñasco, San Rafael, Nueva Esperanza and Obrera, among others.
The Police Chief stressed according to preliminary reports, they have seen a reduction in emergency response times as patrols are able to make their way to sites within a span of three to five minutes.
Landagary furthered the new operations of the office were put in place in order to provide more efficient police work, both within the department as well as within the community.
He acknowledged there are still some details to adjust within the newly implemented work strategy, which they will address as necessary.
He stated the city currently has more than 20 patrol units, among them those from the municipality, tourism, and from the Federal Maritime Land Zone, all of whom provide coverage for all sectors.
